 One of the most pleasant areas of China to explore randomly, eastern Sichan is focused around Chengdu, the relaxed provincial capital.
Settled for more than 2400 years and once ringed by almost 20 km of battlements and gates, Chengdu was styled Brocade City in Han times. Chengdu has a reputation as a culinary capital. Indeed, Chengdu's cuisine is irresistible and tea drinking is a custom that took hold here 1,300 years ago and never let go. Like so many cities in central China, Chengdu has a pretty little river running through it. The narrow Fuhe river and its southern tributary form a sort of moat around the city.
