Toronto Zoo Travel

The Toronto Zoo is one of the largest zoological parks in Canada. The Toronto Zoo has cooperated on environmental restoration projects with the Rouge Park to improve the health of its surrounding ecosystem, particularly along the Morningside Tributary.

The Toronto Zoo covers 710 acres (287 hectares) and is divided into 'zoogeographic' regions. It features four major tropical indoor pavilions and several smaller indoor viewing areas, plus numerous outdoor exhibits with more than six miles (ten km) of walking trails. The Toronto zoo houses more than 5,000 animals representing more than 450 species; it draws more than 1,2 million visitors each year.

The Toronto Zoo is located in the east end of Toronto, off Meadowvale Road, between Sheppard Avenue East and Old Finch Avenue. The Toronto Zoo can be reached by Highway 401 (exit #389) or by public transit (Toronto Transit Commission).

Open all year (except on December 25th) the Toronto Zoo offers a diverse collection of animals, displayed on a biogeographical basis, and conducts special programming throughout the year.

The Toronto Zoo has restaurant and picnic facilities, full service washrooms and gift shops. The Toronto Zoo is a wheelchair accessible facility. Parking and admission fees apply. For more information call 416-392-5900 or e-mail torontozoo@zoo.metrotor.on.ca.
